Ten Cents (Eps. 61-70)

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

"Yes, you should keep going. You want to keep going, you're just scared. You believe in what you're doing, and other people believe in what you're doing too and want to participate, so yeah. It's all you! Keep going." (Danielle G.)

We've reached 70 episodes of Young, Gifted and Abroad! To celebrate this milestone, and to share my thoughts one last time before taking a break until 2021, here I am checking in again with a new edition of "Ten Cents"!

1) Sharing my thoughts/Reflecting on the podcast thus far (0:00-9:09) - Thankfully I'm not feeling as worn-down as I did this time last year, but I am still feeling the same mixture of pride, satisfaction, and disbelief about what I've been able to accomplish as the one-woman-team behind Young, Gifted and Abroad. In this episode, I share where I think the disbelief is coming from, and also share my hopes for a different emotional landscape for everybody by the time I return from my break sometime in January.

2) Thanking Y'all! (9:09-16:06) - You get to hear me read a new message that I recently received from a listener in Arizona! I'm also expressing thanks to Black Girl Film Club, NBee (from episode. 54, also from "Animalia"), and my mom. Thanks to all my guests from episodes 61-70: Katrina, Gabby, Kristin, Sutanya, Nicole, Paige, YeSeul, Aijalon, Amanda, and AJ! Additional thanks to Kristi (from episode 5) and Danielle Desir (from last year) for their input/suggestions, and of course thanks to everybody out there for listening!

3) Two Lessons (16:06-26:52) - The first: Follow through. I feel like I share varying versions of this same lesson every time I do a "Ten Cents" or anniversary episode, but hey, it's a lesson that bears repeating. Sometimes we forget (and by that I mean, I forget). The second: Create before you consume. Shoutout to Lori from episode 34 and the FB group she's recently started.

Be sure to listen to this episode, "Ten Cents (Eps. 61-70)" for more! And look forward to the return of Young, Gifted and Abroad sometime in January 2021.

See y'all next year! Take care! Take hold of joy however you can!
